Peplum top – secrets revealed

Peplum top - secrets revealed
Peplum top, in my opinion, is the most universal item in the “peplum-trio”, because it gives the most room for the creativity. You can combine it with skirts or – if you want to achieve more modern look – with pants, including your favorite jeans. You can style it in a countless way, depending on your mood. To achieve the classiest duet combine the peplum top with the knee-length pencil skirt (this length flatter the most any figure) or cropped fit pants (especially if you have short legs). Similarly to peplum dresses and skirts make sure you choose the peplum that will flatter the most your silhouette. At all costs avoid ankle boots and ankle-strapped sandals because they will visually shorten your legs. The shorter/more open shoes are, the better it is. Last but not least, do not forget to accessorize your outfit. Gorgeous bag, pair of high-heels of flats, and well-thought jewelry can make miracles.

Peplum dresses like all dresses are easy to style as you do not have to be worry what top to choose, therefore I recommend them to women who do not have too much time to combine their attire.

To be sure your peplum dress the best flatter your figure, follow the rules from my previous post and make sure the fabric is soft and that dress fits well your figure. Then choose the right accessories and you are ready to go!

Peplum skirt - secrets revealed

Last weekend my friend mentioned that she thinks about buying a peplum skirt but she is not sure if this is a right cut for her figure. Then immediately asked me if I can write a post about how to wear a skirt with peplum. I thought “why not” as the subject seems to be interesting. In fact I will go one step further and will prepare a series of posts about peplum as there are not only peplum skirts to talk about.

Before we dive into the details regarding the peplum skirts, I find important to present you various styles of peplum hoping this will help you to find the one which will best flatter your figure.

Asymmetrical Peplum is appropriate for any body type depending on where the hem falls. Just remember that the peplums that are shorter at the sides but longer in the front and back works better for curvier body types and the ones longer at the sides but shorter in the front and back are for women with narrow hips.

Flared peplum is perfect for women who are heavier at the bottom because this peplum will flatter your figure by drawing in the waist and building an hourglass shape.

Gathered peplum is the most appropriate if you are straight without defined waist, because this style of peplum will help you to create a curve at the hip. Just make sure the peplum of your skirt sits right on your waist because only then it will create that much wanted contrast between your hips and waistline.

Pleated Peplum works well for any body type. If you want to camouflage the appearance of your belly, you can easily do it with this style of peplum.

How to wear peplum skirt?

There is one rule of thumb you should stick with: the fuller the peplum skirt is, the more fitted and simpler the top should be.

In my opinion the classiest way to wear a peplum skirt is with a top or buttoned shirt tucked in.

Attention: the peplum attires are not suitable for all situations so, in order to save yourself embarrassment and avoid problems, be always considerate of your work-place policies and adjust accordingly.

Dressing for success

Dressing for success

My personal day-to-day style is about comfort and practicality. However I always try to incorporate fashion and sense of style. For me the simplicity and structure are crucial. I was thinking yesterday what would be my 3 tips of dressing for success if somebody have asked me. Here are my secrets :

– find what works for you instead of copying somebody else’s style

– look attractive not sexy (at least when we talk about the on-duty style)

– be chic and classy, not trendy – timeless pieces are what you should stick to.

Remember : True style is a personal thing. It is more than following trends.

The Little Red Dress (LRD)

Basic rules
The Little Red Dress (LRD)

Red color is strong-willed and can give confidence to those who are shy like me. I have been dreaming about the red dress for a very long time. I already know that my dreamt red dress will have a simple A-line or tulip cut and will be in crimson color – a classy variation of red. It will be THE “Little Red Dress” (LRD). I still haven’t found what I am looking for though. I want my red dress to be perfect and it takes time. You may think I am fussy, but nothing could be more wrong.

The explanation why I am taking so much time to find my LRD is very simple, you can’t go wrong with black, white or beige, but believe me, when it comes to red, there is a thin line between classy and vulgar. Why? Because red is the color of extremes. It represents energy, action, desire, and passion. However too much of the color red or wrong type of it can cause irritation, agitation and ultimately angriness.

If you want to create a classy business look in red, make sure you will get a right shade of it and stick to simple cuts. If you have a good sense of colors, you can create color-blocks with red. Otherwise stick to the proven sets and combine red with neutrals (white, beige, grey, black) only. If you want to play even safer, add a touch of red to your monochrome look.

One more thing worth to know about red is that all reds are not created equal. In fact, aside from light and dark shades of red, there are two kinds of red: yellow-based reds called also “tomato” reds; and blue-based reds known as “berry reds”.

Here is a little “variation of red” cheat-sheet :

Maroon is a dark bluish red. In general it is slightly softer than burgundy and not as dramatic as true red.

Burgundy is a dark purplish red; it is more sophisticated and serious and less energetic than true red.

Crimson has a little blue in it. It emits sensuality rather than sexuality.

Scarlet has a little orange mixed with it, which gives a richness and brightness to it. It is a little less intense than true red.

Context is everything when using red. The same red in combination with black will glow more than in a combination with white. Keep this in mind when you compose your outfit.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Brighten up your day!

Brighten up your day!
My personal day-to-day style is about comfort and practicality, while still incorporating fashion and sense of style. It is important for me to be always prepared for unplanned meetings. I strongly believe that you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Your attire is your visit card. If you are not in a mood to play with colors stick to neutrals and add a statement piece like this coral bag that brightens up this grey outfit.

Monochrome Friday

Have you ever wondered what makes a woman chic? There are many things like i.e. the way she moves, talks, her gestures and language, tone of the voice and so on. Among all of them there is also her outfit. I believe that the more toned colour attire is, the more elegant result is. Personally I like monochrome compositions and simple – but not banal – cuts. And trust me, black is not the only color you can wear from head to toe. In fact I rarely wear black due to my condition and never-ending-peeling. There is no harm though because I replaced it with camel and beige. Have a look at this effortless perfect-for-Friday look. Isn’t it classy?

Have a relaxing weekend!

Yesterday evening my daughter was helping me to choose her outfit for this morning but we had different concepts in mind. I had to use all my tricks to convince her that sandals are not the best type of shoes for autumn weather. Eventually she agreed and politely went to bed and I sat down in front of my wardrobe wondering what I will wear tomorrow to work.

I did not feel like spending hours to compose my outfit though, therefore I decided to stick to the tested “sport chic” look. Here is one of an idea: a simple dress paired with a chunky cable knit sweater and ballerina flat in the same colour palette – a perfect outfit for the office. Remember that clean lines and natural colors are essential to get this look right. Add the accessories in the same tone and off you go! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

New week = New Opportunities

I noticed that most of people wear black on Mondays. I know, this is not my favorite day either, but instinctively I always wear a color that day. Maybe it is linked to my condition and fact that I have a never ending peeling or maybe it is because I need energize myself for whole week. Whatever the reason is, it works very well for me. And it does not mean that you have to resign from black. Just mix it with a color that makes you happy – you will feel the difference immediately. For today orange is my pick! Have a fruitful week!

It’s Friday! Time to slow down and take a deep breath!

Funny thing: do you know that for most of us casual Friday basically means that we can jump in our favorite jeans? I know! I love it too! However today I have a better idea!
