Chic Girl Travels

Travels used to give me headaches. Mainly because I always wanted to travel light yet often I have a dilemma what to take and how to pack, so I do not finish wearing everyday the same or taking too much clothes. Thanks God practice makes perfect. After years of shorter and longer business trips, long weekends and casual trips I managed to find a way to pack only what is necessary. The principle is simple: always chose one color palette per trip. This way no matter how you match tops with bottoms, it will work well. The number of pieces you pack depends on the length of the trip.

In one week I am starting my MBA in Milano. My first staying will take 7 days. Since some social events are planned, I decided to stick to black-white-olive-beige palette. By choosing 4 tops (fake fur vest, black sweater, white shirt, beige turtle neck knitwear), 3 bottoms (black, olive, beige trousers), 1 dress, 2 pairs of comfortable shoes, 2 shawls, I will be able to create at least 10 different classy combinations, which gives me a great choice for 1 week. Also the mix of lighter and warmer pieces makes me prepared for any weather.

Proper selection of jewelry and handbag will be a great final touch to make the outfits unforgettable.

Voilà! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

And what are your cloths selection’s tricks?

Christmas dinner & classy white shirt

Christmas dinner & classy white shirt

Christmas is almost here. Shortly we start visiting our families and friends. I’m sure many of you are wondering what to wear for this occasion. I often find it quite tricky, because when you visit your family you want to feel comfortable in your outfit, yet you are obliged to show the respect to your family. Achieving this result is not always easy especially in multigenerational families. Through the years I tested many different options to come to the conclusion that white shirt is the most universal solution and certainly the best one for people who have skin problems like me.

In fact, to be honest with you, when my skin worsens and AD is winning with me, I tend to wear the white shirt, because it buoys me up. It gives me an impression that it is not so bad and makes my skin less red (at least in my head).

White shirt will never let you down. You can pair it with pants, skirts, even with nice pair of dark jeans. White shirt will always upgrade your look and add a lot of freshness especially when your skin is not perfect. It is always appropriate so do not be afraid that you will be overdressed. Choose the right bottom and accessories, grab nice chocolate as a gift, and make a great show!

Enjoy your Christmas break!

Real Chic in a Fake Fur

Real Chic in a Fake Fur

Faux-fur… I have never imagined that one day I will write about this… In fact I have never imagined that I will be writing a blog either.  🙂

Life is unpredictable and this is fantastic!

Speaking about fake fur, I must say that I have never been a fun of this kind of cover-up but this year something snapped in me.

I am not sure what caused this change, but I am happy this is happening, because furs are so classy! To be honest with you, I am very glad the fake furs have been finally noted and appreciated. They look equally elegant as the real one yet they save a lot of lives and do not cause the allergies. Perfect choice for the AD people like me! J

Even if you are not convinced to fake fur now, I strongly encourage you to give it a try. There is so much choice on the market that every girl will find something for herself. You can choose between cropped jackets or long, oversize coats. If you feel this is too much for you to handle, try with the fake fur vest or scarves. They will bring a texture to your outfit.

If you are looking for an on-duty combination, here is an idea: crispy white shirt team with black sleeveless fake fur gilet, pair of black slim jeans and boots. Simple, cozy, and ultra-chic!

And no matter what, remember:

White Chic

White Chic

Do you remember my previous post about the winter jackets? I suggested investing in neutral colors. I still think this is the best option, however if you can afford more than one high quality winter jacket, think about white! White is so awesome! I know, I know, not very practical if you have to commit to work on a daily basis, but other than that it is so chic!

Let’s get shine!

Let's get shine!

Some of you may already know that I am not a trend follower. I prefer invest in timeless classy pieces than in something that will be out of fashion in next few months.

However if I really like a trend and I think it may become a classic or I want to twist my outfit, I buy 1 or 2 trendy pieces. I never spend too much money on it though. Depending on the item, I find a quality of Zara good enough for my needs. Lower quality can ruin your classy look; too expensive piece can ruin your wallet.

Metallic fabric is one of this season’s trend. It is funny yet dangerous trend, because it is very easy to overdo it and end up looking tacky instead of classy. So today I would like to give you few tips how to wear the shiny fabrics in a classy way.

First of all, yes you guessed, less is more. Choose only one metallic item and keep the rest of your attire neutral.

Second of all, keep metallic wardrobe pieces simple and understated.

Third of all, for work choose the fabrics with metallic yarns woven in them rather the shiny ones. They will look much more elegant and less flashy.

Last but not least (advice for girls with skin condition but not only): metallic fabrics reflect the light so I do not recommend to wear them close to your face, because they will highlight any imperfection of your face, therefore rather choose skirt than top.

If you want to buy something timeless yet trendy, I suggest you to buy a pair of nice shiny ballerina flats/pumps or a handbag. With these items you easily upgrade your everyday look and the return on the investment will be much faster. And remember, sharing is caring, so share with me how you shine.

Peplum skirt – secrets revealed

Peplum skirt - secrets revealed

Last weekend my friend mentioned that she thinks about buying a peplum skirt but she is not sure if this is a right cut for her figure. Then immediately asked me if I can write a post about how to wear a skirt with peplum. I thought “why not” as the subject seems to be interesting. In fact I will go one step further and will prepare a series of posts about peplum as there are not only peplum skirts to talk about.

Before we dive into the details regarding the peplum skirts, I find important to present you various styles of peplum hoping this will help you to find the one which will best flatter your figure.

Asymmetrical Peplum is appropriate for any body type depending on where the hem falls. Just remember that the peplums that are shorter at the sides but longer in the front and back works better for curvier body types and the ones longer at the sides but shorter in the front and back are for women with narrow hips.

Flared peplum is perfect for women who are heavier at the bottom because this peplum will flatter your figure by drawing in the waist and building an hourglass shape.

Gathered peplum is the most appropriate if you are straight without defined waist, because this style of peplum will help you to create a curve at the hip. Just make sure the peplum of your skirt sits right on your waist because only then it will create that much wanted contrast between your hips and waistline.

Pleated Peplum works well for any body type. If you want to camouflage the appearance of your belly, you can easily do it with this style of peplum.

How to wear peplum skirt?

There is one rule of thumb you should stick with: the fuller the peplum skirt is, the more fitted and simpler the top should be.

In my opinion the classiest way to wear a peplum skirt is with a top or buttoned shirt tucked in.

Attention: the peplum attires are not suitable for all situations so, in order to save yourself embarrassment and avoid problems, be always considerate of your work-place policies and adjust accordingly.

Brighten up your day!

Brighten up your day!
My personal day-to-day style is about comfort and practicality, while still incorporating fashion and sense of style. It is important for me to be always prepared for unplanned meetings. I strongly believe that you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Your attire is your visit card. If you are not in a mood to play with colors stick to neutrals and add a statement piece like this coral bag that brightens up this grey outfit.

Monochrome Friday

Monochrome Friday

Have you ever wondered what makes a woman chic? There are many things like i.e. the way she moves, talks, her gestures and language, tone of the voice and so on. Among all of them there is also her outfit. I believe that the more toned colour attire is, the more elegant result is. Personally I like monochrome compositions and simple – but not banal – cuts. And trust me, black is not the only color you can wear from head to toe. In fact I rarely wear black due to my condition and never-ending-peeling. There is no harm though because I replaced it with camel and beige. Have a look at this effortless perfect-for-Friday look. Isn’t it classy?

Have a relaxing weekend!

Sport Chic at Express Pace

Yesterday evening my daughter was helping me to choose her outfit for this morning but we had different concepts in mind. I had to use all my tricks to convince her that sandals are not the best type of shoes for autumn weather. Eventually she agreed and politely went to bed and I sat down in front of my wardrobe wondering what I will wear tomorrow to work.

I did not feel like spending hours to compose my outfit though, therefore I decided to stick to the tested “sport chic” look. Here is one of an idea: a simple dress paired with a chunky cable knit sweater and ballerina flat in the same colour palette – a perfect outfit for the office. Remember that clean lines and natural colors are essential to get this look right. Add the accessories in the same tone and off you go! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

New week = New Opportunities

New week = New Opportunities
I noticed that most of people wear black on Mondays. I know, this is not my favorite day either, but instinctively I always wear a color that day. Maybe it is linked to my condition and fact that I have a never ending peeling or maybe it is because I need energize myself for whole week. Whatever the reason is, it works very well for me. And it does not mean that you have to resign from black. Just mix it with a color that makes you happy – you will feel the difference immediately. For today orange is my pick! Have a fruitful week!
